Hey everyone so I'm just doing a general poll and discussion thread. I have had more than a few players tell me it is ruining the game and would like to see MCBall return to the old days when most players did not use it. I'm pretty proficient with it myself so I see it as a skill as well.

First before heads explode. This is just a survey. This isn't something we would suddenly change. Their would be a break in period for players to unbind their keys and get used to not playing without it if we ever did make this change.

Here is the framing of the debate as I see it.

Arguments for allowing F5
1) F5 adds an additional element of skill that can be learned by anyone so why bother?
2) Everyone can use F5 so it isn't an unfair advantage.
3) Enforcing the rule will be difficult (except using replay mod it is pretty easy to see who is using it)

Arguments for not using F5
1) It isn't realistic for a shooting game and the game would be more fun without it.
2) It puts new players and younger players at a severe disadvantage. MCBall retention would improve without players using F5.

I will edit this thread as players add what I consider good points for one side or the other.

And now for the Poll.............WHAT NO POLL..... I'm going to leave this open for discussion for a little while. Probably in about a week I'll add the poll and players can start voting.

So here is the poll. Poll closes on August 11th

1) Should the use of F5 be allowed on MCBall?
1) Yes
7 votes
70%
2) No
3 votes
30%
Number of voters: 10
Poll is closed

Did you read my post? It's hardcoded as a feature of Minecraft. It's literally part of the base game that your platform is running off of. That's like saying people can't use a pickaxe in Survival without actually removing the ability for the player to use a pickaxe.
People don't just use it shifting at corners to see around, they also use it while running to look behind them. You'd never be able to enforce this. It's also been a part of the game forever, and making a change to something as irrelevant as F5 when the former community is already so estranged from the server really shouldn't be a priority at all.

Did you read my post? What you're presenting here are some of the negatives of banning it. That's fair enough, the fact that it's built into Minecraft is why it's been allowed so far. It would indeed be hard to enforce the looking behind usage, but that's not the biggest problem with F5.
You still haven't backed up your claim that there are no positives to banning it or explained why what we've said are positives aren't important.
Thanks,

You can't enforce something like that. That's like banning sprinting or jitterclicking from the game. The positives are that it's realistic without it and it will be more fair for all players. Using F5 correctly is a skill that you can learn and improve upon. Things like that make the game more interesting.

It's literally impossible to enforce the banning of F5. New players will join and have no idea about the rule. If I joined the server for the first time and saw that F5 was illegal, I'd straight-up leave. It's just extremely difficult to even tell/prove if someone was using F5 or not.

The banning of F5 will lead to people blowing their eardrums out by turning their volume up to hear footsteps easily. It could possibly lead to witch hunts. It's just going to lead to more issues.
