Recently I have noticed people calling out players for using the chat filter. It just happened to me for the first time which is surprising because I swear all the time, and I make sure to spell it all correctly so that the filter does its job.

So I guess my first question is: Is it okay to swear with the chat filter? Back when I played from when I started in 4 years ago to about a year ago when I stopped, it was always okay for people to swear as long as they let the chat filter censor it. At least, I cant remember even once that someone was called out on it in all that time, by players or staff. But like i said, recently, I have seen many players and staff call people out when they have four *s in their message.

The very first rule under communication, and the only one that really pertains, is "Do not use language deemed inappropriate by staff, this includes avoiding the language filter currently in place ingame." By adding in the final clause, i assumed that when the rules was created, it was implied that using the *s instead of swearing is fine. I have always thought the wording of this rule makes it too open ended, as different moderators would enforce the rule to different and therefore disagreeing degrees. I would be fine if the answer to my question was No, you can't say any *s in your in-game chat; I just want a solid yes or no answer.

But if it is against the rules like many people have seemed to agree on, then what about other ways of swearing without swearing? Like, if I say "****" no one seems to care because I could have said almost anything. But if I say "Mother ****ers"(like I did today) or "Son of a *****" it is pretty obvious what I said. And so I can see why that would be against the rules. But then what about acronyms? OMFG and WTF are things that I see a lot in chat, and those only mean one thing. Or, the game itself says "He's going HAM!"

My question about chat related rules is this: Is it okay to swear on the discord server? I have quite a bit, and I know many many other people have, including many staff members. And now that the discord is the official MCBall discord server, does it fall under the rules? I really doubt anyone on the server minds the cursing, but should we have rules anyways just in case?
