How Does One Become a Developer?

Hi-

I've recently learned Java and I'm wondering about what it would take to become a developer on MCBall. Thanks.

Jeussa was a (trusted) staffmember with quite some talent for coding. He cared for MCBall and I think he could have been a great developer for MCBall. He started coding his own pb server when he lost interest in MCBall. I always wondered why MCBall didn't take him in as developer. As for you becoming a developer, I wish you the best of luck and I sure hope you (or somebody) will be coding with pleasure for MCBall. However, I don't see it happening any time soon.

Kind regards,
General_Sniper

PS: I think you should apply to knack in a Personal Message

Well, thing is, they did. No one however knew about it yet because it was going to be announced later. So I waited like 5 days until waffle came to me and we started setting up the workspace and stuff. Then he had to leave for a bit for an admin meeting. He never returned though... I eventually noticed this post about half an hour after he left me:

Worst thing is, up until today (almost a year) they have still not done a thing. I had a system in mind which allowed me to get UUID support fixed in 30 minutes (I applied this to my own server in 30 minutes at least)

(I think I've actually still got the source code somewhere on my pc from when we were setting up the workspace?)

Anyway, don't waste your time here lad. They'll use you just as they used me... There's tons of great communities out there who appreciate the work you would do for them a lot more and who actually deserve it. Or perhaps you'll be the next generation server owner yourself :o

With a small server, being built from the ground up, it's easy to have UUID support. With a larger server, working from an already large code-base and database, it's much harder to implement. Most often a quick 30 minute fix is just a bodge-job that isn't sustainable and isn't suitable for long term use.
Thanks,

I would like to note that this 'small server' had been up since early 2013 (three years by the time I implemented UUID support). It was a simple fix which would transfere data when a namechange was detected from the old username to the new one. Indeed, it's not a permanent fix, however with the current way mcball is coded it would suit perfectly fine as really the only thing that breaks upon namechange is the data not being carried along (rank data excluded, but that's not your plugin)

Although relatively easy, simply copying data from one name to another is not a sustainable system. A preferred system would be to use UUIDs instead of names, which would require mass conversion of the database. As you are probably aware, that is not a 30 minute task. There are also other factors to consider, but I am not at liberty to discuss those.
Thanks,

mcBall overall is not a sustainable system, I've seen the way it works. With the current way it has been programmed my UUID solution would work fine. In fact, Supaham already confirmed this to me when I told him about a year ago.
But if you really want a sustainable system, alright, 30 minutes won't be enough. But may I remind you that UUIDs were announced back around April 2014 (original post by Mojang), that's in fact almost three years ago. It should fit your 30 minutes right about... 49,056 times.

I've seen basically anything behind the scenes on mcball (in fact, that's more than most admins, as I once helped Sawine working on the Eximius servers for some time). I've seen the code, I've seen the management. Trust me, there's no other factors blocking this solution from being applied except for your own ignorance to spend a reasonable amount of time on it or at least ask someone else to finish the job (who actually does it).

You can dislike what I say, but you cannot deny that mcball is dead. The new developers have not pushed a single one of their updates and the only person who did have full power to the server, something which he refused to pass on, is addicted to overwatch. Why are you still defending?

My goodness. You haven't seen nearly as much as you think you have.

Firstly, I don't trust you. Secondly, calling me ignorant is silly. Thirdly, I resigned over a year ago.

The new developers have pushed updates, things that keep the server up to date and running. As for waffletastic, he's not addicted to Overwatch, it's literally his job.
Thanks,
Xorgon

I'm not asking you to trust me, I lost my faith in you guys too about a year ago (when you ditched me after I had worked towards developer for over a year). You could've said no, but nah, that was too much work. I just had to find out myself after you already accepted me...

Almost a year ago ;) (source).
Anyway, I don't blame you for that. I'm not referring to just you in person. It's the overall situation which has been around for two and a half years now (ever since Supaham said he would become less active) that bothered me and especially the people who could have done something but eventually didn't. I'm not blaming anyone for leaving, that's up to them. What I am blaming them for is leaving mcball down to its fate without properly getting a replacement.

Keeping the server online is childs play. Whatever happened to the 'big updates' they promised in staff chat. You know of what I speak, I've still got the screenshots right here. It was posted on the 10th of April 2016 but for the sake of privacy I will not post them here.

One does not make gaming their job if they did not become addicted in the first place. Waffle spent an aweful lot of time first at CS:GO which started all this mess. Alright then, maybe it's his job now. But a job does not occupy him 24/7, how come he still has not been doing anything for his mcball (something knack used to refer to me as 'waffles dream'). Or even find the guts to get a replacement. You cannot say there was no one who met the requirements for that.

From the context of replying to me, and as I am not part of a relevant group, the context implies that you were using 'you' in direct reference to me.
Thanks,
