Protection Usage Of MCBall Players

Hi guys I want to talk about the usage of players with protection.
Don't take it personally if I name you in this post.






Phools.
Why does Phools need protection?
He hits like a truck…
Hes a diamond helmet and way to skilled for it.


Guys that is the only name add a name and I'll talk about them later.
Tell me about them.
Now here is a thing vote on this poll if you think protection should be gone.
Well I know that Phools is still gonna use protection no matter what!
If it goes he'll be mad as that he'll use his diamond helmet!

I think the real problem was that you quoted all of that just to make a tiny correction on a typo. It's unnecessary and in my opinion, rather rude.

Anyways, I'd like to put in my two cents, for whatever that's worth...

First regarding the issue of these protection threads appearing all the time. I used to say to "deal with it", and to some extent I still stand by this. We shouldn't be rude to other players, blaim our losses on protection, etc. However, the fact is that protection needs to be nerfed. It's just OP. Plain and simple. Sure we could ignore it all, but if no one speaks up, nothing will happen. Even if you don't agree, you can at least see that the majority of players don't like protection so something obviously needs to change.

Protection doesn't need removed, just nerfed. I love the idea of having lightweight fast players, heavyweights/tanks, spies/ninjas, snipers, etc. But at the moment, protection is just too OP to fit in with a balanced kit system. It's too easy to use and has no disadvantages.

Here's some options that other players have brought up:

- Use a shield to block shots instead of a vest
- Add slowness to the player using protection
- Make the shield/vest respawn longer
- Make it only block sniper shots at first, then regular shots on a ks

These are just a few ideas. I think it would be really fun to use a shield instead of a vest as it makes the kit more skill based, and makes it feel less like magneto.

However, if we want to go for more of a "tank" feel, then that won't work.

So, we could make the respawn longer and add slowness. This would be the easiest to implement and I think it would work well. Also, being slow would mimic having heavy armor on which would be kinda cool!

Here are my thoughts on the matter for those that don't already know (Mostly copied and pasted from another thread cuz I'm tired):

- Why is that everyone who argues protection is fine the way it is uses "You can counter it with all of these KITS.." as their support?
Kits are supposed to help eliminate other players to progress in the game. Not be used just to cancel out other kits. (Mind you, using a kit to kill players differs from using a kit just to counter another one)

- Because of the previous statement, how well a certain kit can be countered with others shouldn't determine it's fairness or OP-ness.

- We're actually overestimating the effect of this whole "kit countering" idea. This isn't League of Legends. Most kits only give you 1 or 2 items. And it's often that you don't even use both items before you die. You have 64 paintballs. "Kit countering" is hardly ever brought up outside of the notorious protection topic, making it clear that it's quite the weak argument.

- The kit is the "fake" kind of popular. How? "Use protection to counter protection" - this will make 3 people on one team use it just to counter one person with it on the other team. It spreads like a disease, exponentially. And what's interesting is, 2 of those 3 people don't even prefer protection. If they did, why weren't they using it before the opposing player did? There's more proof in this than there is in assuming that everyone using protection likes it. Don't be fooled by the general numbers.


- When you have this much conflict with the same kit, it's smarter to go back to the drawing board (or, I dunno, revisit the kit submission thread for the communities' ideas..) , than to try and "justify" or fix it. We could have developed kits that are as successful/uncontroversial as Ninja, Flash, Sniper or Magneto with the time we've spent trying to justify ones like this.

My point here isn't that I hate the kit, not even that we should remove it. It's obvious that many players have a problem with it. It seems that we have enough nerfing suggestions to pick and choose from by now (or enough to help staff). I don't see why we should debate the validity of the kit any farther. I'll leave it at that :l

Idk I pretty much quit MCBall, but don't you use protection a lot too?

Except... Not everyone would be happy. There's still a lot of people who like protection as evident from this argument still existing. I, for one, really like the idea of protection, just not the way it was implemented.

Shnoofles , I agree with pretty much everything you said! However, only the players are wasting their time on prot as nothing has actually been done to nerf it. Also, I think it was better for them to nerf magneto rather than get rid of it entirely, and I think the same thing about prot. That's just my opinion though.
